ISTU is a participant in the national project “The Path of St. Innocent”

ISTU is a participant in the national project "The Way of Saint Innocent", which was developed in Russia for the 220th anniversary of his birth Innokentia Veniaminova. Irkutsk Technical University, in collaboration with universities in the regions of Siberia and the Far East, is recommended to develop a program of voluntary participation of student volunteers in activities to study and preserve the heritage of St. Innocent in the Irkutsk region, other territories of Russia, and the USA. This decision was made on November 29 at an interregional meeting on project implementation. The participants of the meeting were the Vice-Rector for Academic and Social Work of ISTU Boris Ponomarev and director of the University History Museum Olga Goroshchenova.

As part of the national project, prayer services, scientific conferences, lectures are held throughout the country, pilgrimages are organized, books are published and collections of the Saint’s works are republished. On November 28, a meeting was held at the Museum of History of ISTU within the framework of the Orthodox lecture hall "Russian holiness" on the theme "Apostle of Love".

Students of the Institute of Subsoil Use attended the lecture. Director of the museum Olga Goroshchenova and the priest of the parish at ISTU in the name of St. Sergius of Radonezh father Vyacheslav (Ilyin) talked about an amazing Irkutsk resident, a saint, whose life the Orthodox Church called apostolic - Innocent Veniaminov.

During the lecture, the director of the ISTU History Museum prepared students to understand the Christian term “apostle.” The youth learned that according to the Bible “L love long-suffering, merciful, love does not envy, love does not exalt itself, is not proud, does not act rudely, does not seek its own, is not irritated, does not think evil, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; covers everything, believes everything, hopes everything, endures everything. Love never fails, although prophecy will cease, and tongues will be silent, and knowledge will be abolished” (1 Cor. 13-4).

O. Goroshchenova emphasized that Innokenty Veniaminov was an apostle of love - a man who followed God.

Students of the Institute of Subsoil Use listened with interest to information about the fate of their famous fellow countryman.

The director of the museum said that Innokenty Veniaminov was born on August 26, 1797 in the village of Anga, Kachugsky district, into the family of sexton Evsevy Popov and was named Ivan at birth.

“When studying at the Irkutsk Seminary (the building of which is now occupied by the Pedagogical University on Nizhnyaya Embankment), it turned out that there were at least eight students with that name and surname. So Ivan Popov first became Veniaminov ( in honor of the recently deceased Bishop of IrkutskVeniamin - Bagryansky), and then, during monastic tonsure in 1840, by Innokenty Veniaminov.

After graduating from the seminary, Innokenty Veniaminov served in the Annunciation Church, which was located at the intersection of what is now Karl Marx and Volodarsky streets. Later, Innokenty Veniaminov would name the city of Blagoveshchensk in the Amur Region after the Church of the Annunciation.

The fate of the future saint changed dramatically in connection with the decision to begin missionary work in Alaska in 1824. By that time, Innocent already had a family, a stable job in a good church, but his apostolic feat called him. Together with his wife, children and elderly mother, Innocent went to Russian America. The path was not easy, but living conditions in a foreign land turned out to be even more difficult. The harsh climate, lack of housing, places for worship - churches, the unbelief of the aborigines... The holy ascetic overcame everything with God's help: he built a house and a church from logs that the sea washed ashore. With his work and meekness he attracted the aborigines to his side. He began to educate the inhabitants of Kamchatka, the Aleutian Islands, and North America, baptized thousands of people into Orthodoxy, built churches at which he founded schools and taught children in them himself. He carried out large-scale vaccination of smallpox, which made it possible to stop the epidemic of this disease among the indigenous peoples of America,” said O. Goroshchenova.

She noted that, deeply respecting the ethnic roots of the local population, Innokenty Veniaminov 1826 created an alphabet for the Aleut language, conducted services in the local dialect. In addition, Innocent wrote several serious scientific works on the geography and ethnography of Russian America. Innokenty Veniaminov became the first Bishop of Kamchatka, Kuril and Aleutian. Expanding the possessions of the Russian Empire, together with N.N. Muravyov-Amursky concluded the Aigun Peace Treaty with the Chinese in 1858, according to which the entire Amur region passed to the Russian Empire. In January In 1868, he was appointed Metropolitan of Moscow to replace the deceased Metropolitan Philaret, who saw apostolic features in his asceticism. Innokenty Veniaminov, Metropolitan of Moscow and Kolomna, died on March 31, 1879, leaving behind a memory worthy of glorification as a saint, which happened on October 6, 1977.

Today in Irkutsk an interregional meeting was held on the implementation of the long-term national project “The Path of St. Innocent” for 2015-2017. The meeting was attended by representatives of the regions of the Russian Federation, the Orthodox Church, scientists, and members of the Russian Geographical Society. The project, initiated by the Irkutsk region, was included in the Federal Target Program “Strengthening the unity of the Russian nation and the ethnocultural development of the peoples of Russia.”

In his welcoming speech, deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, member of the General Council of United Russia Sergey Ten in particular, he noted: “The enormous scale of the Saint’s personality, his ascetic work in Siberia, the Far East and North America place him on a par with the outstanding educators of the Russian state. For the first time, the initiative to perpetuate the name of the saint in his homeland, through the creation of a spiritual and cultural center in the village of Anga, was taken by the Archbishop of Irkutsk and Angarsk Vadim, and the writer Valentin Rasputin. The idea was accepted by the first governor of the Irkutsk region, Yuri Nozhikov, and supported by the current head of the missionary department of the Russian Orthodox Church, Archbishop of Belgorod and Stary Oskol Ioann (Popov).

In 2011, the rector of the Prince Vladimir Church, Father Alexey, approached the Yuri Ten Charitable Foundation with the idea of the project. We were inspired by the idea of creating the International Spiritual and Educational Center named after St. Innocent. I am absolutely sure that Innokenty Veniaminov’s contribution to the formation of Russian statehood has been underestimated for a long time. He is not only a spiritual ascetic, but a man who did a lot to advance Russia to the east, enlightened small nations and taught people the basics of spiritual enlightenment in word and deed. Together with the Committee on Culture of the State Duma, the Ministry of Culture of Russia, the Moscow Patriarchate, as well as writers Vladimir Krupin and Valentin Rasputin, with the assistance of the Governor and the Government of the Irkutsk region, the regional Ministry of Culture organized and held a number of, in my opinion, interesting events. In 2011, a quiz “St. Innocent: Missionary, Educator, Teacher” was launched among high school students in the Irkutsk region. The competition committee received 36 works from various parts of the Irkutsk region for consideration. Children from Bayandaevsky, Ust-Ilimsky, Kazachinsko-Lensky, Taishetsky, Ust-Kutsky, Zalarinsky, Shelekhovsky, Kuitunsky districts, as well as from Irkutsk, took part in the quiz. One of the stages of the quiz was an essay competition; the best works were included in the collection “Living for the Benefit of the Fatherland.” Also in 2011, with the participation of the Chairman of the Committee on Culture of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, and now the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, Grigory Ivliev, a round table dedicated to St. Innocent was held. During the conference, a resolution was adopted and the idea of creating an International Spiritual and Educational Center named after St. Innocent was warmly supported. In October 2012, the State Duma of the Russian Federation hosted a conference “Spiritual revival of Siberia and the Far East - the key to the socio-economic development of the territory.” Deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, members of the Government, representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church, scientists, historians, public figures, cultural figures, representatives of public organizations, the Russian Historical Society took part in the conference. The conference resolution speaks of support for the idea of creating the International Children's Church named after St. Innocent in the Irkutsk region and adopted an appeal to the authorities with specific proposals for the creation of the Center. In 2012, a short film was made dedicated to the life and ministry of St. Innocent. For four years, the Yuri Ten Charitable Foundation has been supporting the construction of the International Spiritual and Educational Center named after St. Innocent in Anga. I am glad that at one time we took part in the renewal of the theme of perpetuating the memory of St. Innocent, which eventually acquired the status of the national project “The Path of St. Innocent. Of course, we are ready to continue to support the project, and I am sure that today we need to contact the Russian Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky with a proposal to supervise our project,” he concluded Sergey Ten.

Let us remind you that the project involves the Irkutsk, Sakhalin, Magadan, Amur regions, Kamchatka and Transbaikal territories, the Republic of Sakha, the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, Moscow, as well as Alaska and Japan. 2017 marks the 220th anniversary of the birth and the 40th anniversary of the canonization of the greatest missionary of the Russian Orthodox Church, the Apostle of America and Siberia, a native of the village of Anga, Kachugsky District, Irkutsk Region, Metropolitan of Moscow and Kolomna, Russian scientist and ascetic St. Innocent. Each region will host events to celebrate this date. The project, developed at the initiative of the Irkutsk region and supported by the government of the Russian Federation, received the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus'.

On November 28, 2014, an interregional meeting on the implementation of the “Path of St. Innocent” project began its work in the administration of the Irkutsk region. This project, developed by the Irkutsk region and received the support of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus', is dedicated to the organization of commemorative events as part of the upcoming celebration in 2017 of the 220th anniversary of the birth of St. Innocent (Veniaminov) and the 40th anniversary of his canonization. The event was also attended by the Deputy Administrator of the Moscow Patriarchate.

The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Governor of the Irkutsk Region L.I. Zabrodskaya, who addressed the audience with a welcoming speech on behalf of the Governor of the Irkutsk Region S.V. Eroshchenko.

In his speech, Metropolitan Vadim of Irkutsk and Angarsk noted the unique personality of St. Innocent (Veniaminov) and spoke about the progress of the construction of the temple and the creation of a cultural and educational center in the homeland of St. Innocent in the village of Anga, Irkutsk region.

Archimandrite Savva (Tutunov) informed the audience that the project “The Path of St. Innocent” had received the Patriarchal blessing. The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church gave him high praise. Attaching special importance to holding all stages of the celebration on the territory of the Irkutsk region, which is especially close to the personality of St. Innocent, it is important that commemorative events are also held at a decent level in other regions associated with his life and work, Father Savva emphasized.

In this regard, according to the deputy manager of the Moscow Patriarchate, it is important to identify sites for celebrating the 220th anniversary of the birth of St. Innocent (Veniaminov) on the territory of Moscow. One of them could be the Moscow Church of the Prophet Elijah in Cherkizovo with the building of the historical residence of the Moscow Metropolitans recreated on its territory. Saint Innocent took a direct part in the construction of this residence during his time as Metropolitan of Moscow. The “Path of St. Innocent” project should play a special consolidating role, “uniting many regions and many dioceses in a single impulse to celebrate the memory of St. Innocent.”

During the meeting, representatives of the Institute of Anthropology and Ethnography of the Russian Academy of Sciences named after N.N. also spoke. Miklouho-Maclay, Oxford University, the state television and radio company "Culture", the Russian Geographical Society, a number of Siberian and Far Eastern regions of the Russian Federation. As part of the discussion, the versatility and versatility of the personality of St. Innocent was discussed, his enormous contribution to the development of the Russian state and, in particular, to the development of the Far East was emphasized.

On November 29, during the second day of the interregional meeting on the implementation of the “Path of St. Innocent” project, working aspects related to the organization of commemorative events at the local level were discussed.

Based on the results of two days of work, a resolution was adopted and a preliminary plan for the implementation of the “Path of St. Innocent” project in a number of constituent entities of the Russian Federation was approved. The final documents were signed by the Governor of the Irkutsk Region S.V. Eroshchenko, Metropolitan of Irkutsk and Angarsk Vadim, Deputy Administrator of the Moscow Patriarchate, Archimandrite Savva (Tutunov), as well as other participants of the meeting.

The restoration of the Metropolitan's house in Ang was carried out last summer

The national project “The Path of St. Innocent” is dedicated to
to the 220th anniversary of the birth of the saint and the 40th anniversary of his canonization - these events
will be celebrated in 2017. Already in the early stages of project implementation
10 constituent entities of the Russian Federation joined: the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Irkutsk, Amur,
Magadan, Sakhalin regions, Khabarovsk, Kamchatka and Transbaikal territories,
Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, Moscow, as well as the USA (Alaska) and Japan.

“Saint Innocent (Veniaminov) is the greatest missionary
Russian Orthodox Church, Apostle of America and Siberia, Metropolitan of Moscow and
Kolomensky, researcher, ethnographer, linguist. He enlightened the nations
Kamchatka, Aleutian Islands, North America, Yakutia, Khabarovsk Territory,
baptized people, built churches and opened schools with them. The saint was
associate of the Governor General of Eastern Siberia, Count Nikolai
Muravyov-Amursky in the development of the Far East and education of the indigenous
peoples,” says the preamble to the resolution, which the project participants
approved at an interregional meeting this weekend. Personality scale
saint and his works in the territories of Siberia, the Far East and Northern
America puts him on a par with the outstanding educators of the Russian
states that determined the eastern vector in the development of Russia. National
the project was included in the state program “Strengthening the unity of the Russian nation”
and ethnocultural development of the peoples of Russia.”

“The project born here is a tribute to a great feat,
which Saint Innocent performed. Nowadays there is a lot of talk about “spiritual
staples." It is these “binders” that are the veneration of the memory of the saint
Innocent and following the covenants that he bequeathed to us to carry out, - believes
Metropolitan of Irkutsk and Angarsk Vadim. – Probably, as we get closer to the date
celebrations, the program will take on new forms and be filled with new content.
Now the document that has been approved reflects vector development. I think,
it will be an interesting and significant thing. The celebration gains not only
national character, but also international. We are very pleased that our fellow countryman
so revered. I would like the main measures to be followed and
brought to its logical conclusion."

The basis of the project will be cross-cutting activities in
participating regions: scientific and practical conferences, exhibitions, installation
worship crosses and monuments to St. Innocent, book publishing,
ethnographic expeditions, as well as the creation of a cultural and educational center
named after St. Innocent in the village of Anga, Kachugsky district, Irkutsk
region - the birthplace of the saint.

“The house of St. Innocent has been restored in the center.
The building was restored very carefully, but it was remembered, one might say,
thanks to chance. In the late 1980s, Americans arrived from Alaska and
decided to buy the house - they wanted to collect all the logs and take them to America. Then
our diocese bought this house and began restoring it - before that the building
belonged to some woman,” recalls the deputy governor of Irkutsk
region Larisa Zabrodskaya. – Now a temple and a small hotel are being built in the center,
in which there are no bars or restaurants, but there is a refectory and cells. people will
come there for the soul, and not to dance or eat. also in
there will be a museum complex in the center - in each region we are looking for material to
put it together in the homeland of St. Innocent. It will be possible to come to the village
Ang and see the whole life of the saint from start to finish.”

According to Larisa Zabrodskaya, the project is being implemented due to
philanthropists. At the meeting, it was decided to organize an initiative
group for the creation of the All-Russian Fund of the national project “The Path of the Saint
Innocent" with the participation of representatives of the executive bodies of the constituent entities -
project participants, federal authorities, the Russian Orthodox Church,
regional branches of the Russian Geographical Society, Russian
state corporations and business structures.

The organizers also set out to make a wide
information support for the project - to create a film about St. Innocent,
develop a website, prepare releases and newsletters,
radio and television programs. Volunteered to help inform the population about the project
management of the TV channel "Culture".

Despite the fact that information support for the project is still
only planned, it is known not only in Russia, but also in the world - the organization
from different countries are interested in the project and strive to increase the number of participants.
Doctor of Philosophy at Oxford University, Professor at the Institute of Foreign Studies
philology and regional studies of the North-Eastern Federal University named after
Ammosova Soteri Musalimas, who in 1997 headed the international
organizing committee for the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the saint, spoke about how important
the personality of St. Innocent abroad: “St. Innocent is an eternal saint
Orthodox Church, flower and gem of Russia. A person was born in
village in the Irkutsk region and became Metropolitan of Moscow. The saint has reached
this with humility, because, despite all his talents, he did not go into
Moscow as a careerist - he went to the Aleutian Islands. There he lived among
Aleuts, learned their language, fell in love with them, and they loved him in return. He showed
respect for them, wrote a book in their language. She was so spiritually deep
that it continues to be published in translation into various languages even now. Thank you
for bringing this project to the international level, because St.
Innocent is of great importance for us, citizens of other countries. When I
I will return to London, I will give a report at the Russian Cathedral. Let's see,
what part of the program we will be able to implement in the UK. I also want
involve the Hellenic National University on the island of Corfu in this project. IN
The USA also has several organizations interested in the project. For example, the rector
Theological University in Boston has already openly expressed its intention to interact
In the project's boundaries".
